Yao Commentary

The six Yao of the Resoluteness Hexagram illustrate that when making major decisions, one must act decisively while remaining vigilant.

Resoluteness Hexagram - Yao 43.1

Misfortune

Relying solely on the strength of one's toes to charge forward, acting with excessive haste, will fail to secure victory and ultimately lead to disaster.

This describes the tendency for unexpected disasters. One should adopt a defensive stance. Officials should not act impulsively, and businessmen who operate recklessly may suffer losses.

Resoluteness Hexagram - Yao 43.2

Misfortune

Always remain alert; when danger arises, shout a warning loudly, and do not act rashly at night. Even if armed forces are present, complacency is dangerous.

It describes that at critical moments, caution is paramount and one must not act carelessly. There will be much anxiety and danger; guard against theft. For officials, their positions are linked to military power, and businessmen should insure their goods.

Resoluteness Hexagram - Yao 43.3

Misfortune

Resisting with the strength of one's cheekbones and being overly obstinate may prove dangerous. A righteous person should make decisive decisions, even if acting alone; although facing wind and rain may result in damp clothes and some discomfort, it will not lead to major errors.

It describes that one might encounter difficulties during action, but as long as one perseveres in doing what is right, no real harm will ensue. There is a tendency for disputes. Officials may be slandered if they fail in combating corruption, and businessmen operating alone may waste time, but ultimately profit.

Resoluteness Hexagram - Yao 43.4

Misfortune

The skin on the buttocks is peeling off, actions are sluggish, and walking becomes limping, indicating difficulty. Although dangerous, it will not result in a major catastrophe.

It describes that in the process of advancing, there may be pain and obstacles, but as long as one proceeds cautiously, great disaster can be avoided. Generally, one may be indecisive and unable to accomplish one's goals. Officials may have ideas but lack the capability, and businessmen might miss opportunities and fail to profit.

Resoluteness Hexagram - Yao 43.5

Neutral

Make decisions as decisively as cutting away amaranth and weeds; by adopting a moderate approach, no calamity will occur.

It describes that when handling problems, maintaining balance and moderation while avoiding extreme actions will ensure safety. Officials need to guard against the schemes of others, and businessmen should expedite the sale of their goods.

Resoluteness Hexagram - Yao 43.6

Misfortune

If no warning is issued in advance and one is completely unprepared, it will eventually lead to severe consequences.

It describes that when making decisions, if risks are not anticipated and no preparation is made, failure is inevitable. Officials are not suited to continue in their current positions, and businessmen are advised to seek new partners or contracts.

When interpreting the hexagram, one should consider the five elements attributes of each Yao and interpret them according to the principles of mutual generation and overcoming. Additionally, when studying the changing hexagram, note which Yao will be activated, whether its activation is favorable or not, and how readily it can be activated. For more details, refer to:
